Microgaming paid out over €150 million to jackpot winners in 2018

Microgaming paid out over 150 million euros in jackpots to casino players in 2018

Famous for its lengthy list top quality slot and casino games and of course, it's range of progressive jackpots, including the crown jewel slot Mega Moolah, Microgaming has long been associated with top quality when it comes to the online casino industry

Little wonder then that the company's games attract so many players and in return, Microgaming's most popular progressives have been rewarding players throughout 2018.

That's because the stats from 2018 show that Microgaming have paid out a breath-taking €154,954,249 in winnings across their range of progressive jackpot games. That figure includes all the wins paid out on games such as the massively popular Mega Moolah slot, and Major Millions, Treasure Nile and King Cashalot, and others.

Furthermore, over €40 million of that total cash went to just eight players, with one lucky player landing an incredible €18,915,872 win on the Mega Moolah slot back in September 2018, by far and away the single largest win on any Microgaming game throughout 2018, or indeed in Microgaming's history.

That was because September's lucky winner smashed the previous Guinness World Record, held by Brit Jonathan Heywood, who landed a £13.2 million (€17,879,645) win back in October 2015.

What we do know is that the new record-holder landed their incredible prize playing a 0.75 spin at Grand Mondial Casino, one of Microgaming's most popular online casinos and that the winner was the second player at Grand Mondial to land a win on the Mega Moolah slot in 2018, with one player landing a €4.6 million prize on April 19.

Microgaming Mega Moolah and Major Millions Millionaires in 2018

In 2018, Microgaming saw eight of its customers become instant millionaires with their wins on its games. There were a total of six winners of the Mega Moolah jackpot prize (which if won, guarantees a millionaire due to its minimum 1 million seed amount), while the Major Millions slot, which is seeded at a much lower level, twice grew to beyond a million and saw two players land jackpots on that slot too.

Furthermore, we already have our first confirmed Millionaire of 2019, as one player landed a €1,162,021 jackpot prize on the Major Millions slot on January 2, 2019. Not content with that the Mega Moolah jackpot has now swelled to in excess of 18 million at the time of writing, with increasing likelihood that the record set back in September 2018, could well be smashed on the very next jackpot trigger.

Indeed, should the jackpot not be triggered in the coming week, then it is likely that the 19 million threshold will be reached by next weekend, if not before.

Not only that, the Major Millions progressive jackpot has also once again reached over the million mark, which means that the next winner on this 3.00 per spin slot, which is available in 3-reel and 5-reel versions, will also be the next Millionaire to be created on this progressive jackpot slot too.

That's not the only big money slot progressive you can play as if you fancy your hand at the King Cashalot progressive there is still a massive 634,000 progressive jackpot ready to be won on this slot at the time of writing and of course, all these jackpots are increasing as you read this article.

Microgaming's history of paying its players

Microgaming have become one of the biggest names in online casino gaming and have earned a superb reputation with players due to the regularity and size of their payouts. Since the company began, they have paid out an incredible €980 million across the Microgaming network of games, the largest in the online gaming industry, and it seems sure that 2019 will see total payouts smash through the 1 billion euro barrier.

Speaking following the announcements of the winning players of 2018, Microgaming's CEO John Coleman stated:

"Congratulations to all the lucky winners in 2018. We are proud to host the industry's largest progressive jackpot network, which paid out more than €150 million last year, setting a number of payout records in the process.

"It is remarkable to see the total payouts nearing €1bn which really highlights the strength of the network, and we are excited to be working on a series of developments aimed at taking our progressive jackpots offering to the next level."

What will 2019 hold for the Microgaming progressive jackpot network?

We have already indicated that we are expecting another millionaire to be created on the Major Millions slot and that when the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot is won, it could well set a brand new World Record for the largest ever jackpot win. Assuming both these wins are achieved within the next month or so, that could see 2019 start in explosive fashion for two lucky winners.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the Mega Moolah slot, which paid out a record 13 times in 2017 and seven times in total in 2018, continues to pay out at that rate, although given the popularity of the game and the number of spins played on it, that looks like a distinct possibility.

There's certainly no doubt that Mega Moolah remains Microgaming's jewel in the crown when it comes to its slots and progressive jackpot network but the exciting news that the company is seeking to take its progressive jackpot offering to the 'next level' does hint that there may be some exciting new developments to come in 2019.

To me, with Microgaming recently announcing games such as a new Tomb Raider slot and a Village People slot to be released in 2019, along with a number of agreements with other software companies to produce content exclusively for Microgaming, I would not be surprised to see one or more new progressive jackpot games released in the coming year.

As such, as generous as 2018 has been for some Microgaming players, 2019 looks like being an even more incredible year.
