Play like an Egyptian and load up Microgaming's latest slot Temple of Tut

One of the most intriguing things about the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb was the mysterious issue of the curse that followed people involved in its discovery. Over a number of years, a significantly above average number of people involved in its discovery and excavation died in somewhat mysterious circumstances, leading to the theory that a curse followed all who "desecrated" the tomb of the ancient king.

That legend perhaps more so than any other had led to this particular pharaoh becoming ingrained in the psyche of western culture and it is unsurprising that his death mask remains one of the most common images people think of when thinking of Egyptian culture.

As such, it is unsurprising to see King Tut put in another appearance in the slot genre, this time with Just For The Win's new slot Temple of Tut, developed in conjunction with Microgaming. So how does this brand new games shape up? Let's take a closer look and see for ourselves.

Just for the Win did develop the excellent Goldwyn's Fairies for Microgaming a while ago but since then their output hasn't been as sharp in terms of presentation. The Temple of Tut slot is a return to better form though as it is beautifully realised with some very stylish graphics, clever use of lighter and darker colours on the reels to convey the mood. Giving the slot an 'adventurous' feel also gives it a different angle to the standard Egyptian slot and in truth, it works very well.

The sound on the slot is also very nicely done and with crisp, clean animations, the Temple of Tut slot is a real feast for the eyes and ears.

What is on the reels?

There are just seven standard symbols on the reels and these are divided into the four lower value symbols, which are the Egyptian artifacts, the Eye of Ra, an ankh, the scarab beetle and a sarcophagus.

These are complemented on the reels by three symbols of higher value, and these are the three main characters of the slot. What is more interesting than the symbols themselves however is the fact that on the Temple of Tut slot you can win left to right across the reels, but also right to left, which in truth doubles the amount of winning lines per spin available to you.

There are a couple of other symbols on the reels too and these are directly related to the different types of bonus feature you will find on the slot.

Wild features

The death mask of King Tutankhamun is the Wild symbol and it can substitute for all of the other symbols on the reel (bar the Scatter) to help create winning lines both ways across the reels. Obviously the more of these symbols you land on the reels on a single spin, then the better your chances are of triggering a better sized bonus.

One of the main bonus features of the slot that is related to the Wild symbol is the Super Reels bonus. This can occur randomly during the base game and when it does, the screen changes colour and between one and all five of the reels will become Super Reels. On these reels, there is a much greater chance of Wild symbols landing.

The good news is that this bonus triggers relatively frequently in the game, but the bad news is that not every trigger will result in a win for the player.

Free Spins features

The Scatter symbol in the game is the Temple of Tut logo and you can land three, four or five of these symbols anywhere across the reels to receive either 8, 15 or the maximum of 30 Free Spins. What is particularly exciting about the Free Spins bonus game is that the Super Reel feature is active one very spin and this gives you a much better chance of landing a bigger value win.

Furthermore, if you land two, three, four or five more Scatter symbols on the reels during the bonus round, then you can earn yourself an additional 2, 8, 15 or 30 Free Spins respectively and once again the Super Reel feature will be available on any additional spins won.

Best feature of the Temple of Tut slot

There are lots of nice touches on the Temple of Tut slot and Just For The Win should be proud of how their game has come together, it is certainly their best game since Goldwyn's Fairies in my view. The presentation is slick, smooth and speedy and the game, although somewhat simplistic benefits from the ability to trigger the Super Reels bonus not just in the Free Spins round but on selected random spins. However, the real winner for me here is the ability to win both ways across the reels. That is a massively popular feature which makes you feel like you have two chances to win on every spin and that is what makes this slot one of the most enjoyable to play of recent times.

I have to admit I wasn't over-burdened with enthusiasm when I heard there was a new Egyptian themed slot to play, but when I loaded up the Temple of Tut slot I was very pleasantly surprised. The base game rattles along at a nice pace, it is very easy on the eye and ear and although a medium variance game, there are enough smaller and mid-value wins to ensure your bankroll doesn't take too much of a beating. The bigger value wins do take time to hit though and patience on this slot is what is required to earn those larger value wins.

You can play this fantastic new slot at any of the Mega Moolah casinos.
