Playboy Fortunes slot puts more focus on Jackpots and less on the Bunnys!

Microgaming have released three Playboy slots in the series. First off was the original Playboy slot back in 2013, followed by the Playboy Gold slot in 2018 and then last year we had Playboy Gold Jackpots, which expanded upon the original Playboy Gold slot.

With the last two games being developed by Triple Edge Studios, Microgaming have handed the Playboy baton to Gameburger Studios for the latest release, the aptly titled Playboy Fortunes slot, which features a Scatter-inspired Jackpot game, as well as the standard Free Spins and Wild bonus.

So have Gameburger given the exotic their own unique twist or have they remained loyal to the stylings of previous Playboy games? I was intrigued to find this out, so I decided to take a look for myself.

Presentation

The presentation of the Playboy Fortunes slot is in a certain style. Since taking over the production of games from Triple Edge Studios in the Playboy range, Gameburger Studios have decided not to throw the baby out with the bathwater and the end result is a game that is very much in keeping with the style and tone of those earlier Triple Edge games.

The backdrop is red with circles of light animated appearing and disappearing on screen. The reels are slightly offset to the right with the jackpot prizes for landing the Scatter symbols shown to the left of the reels under the title of the slot. The main controls are all at the foot of the reels. It is a very simple and systematic set up but works well.

The sounds are simple, with the same bass riff used in the earlier Triple Edge Studios games repeated here and similar sound effects when the reels spin. Somewhat formulaic, but it worked well on the older games and fits in very nicely with the slot here too.

What is on the reels?

There are 10 symbols on the reel in total but three of these symbols are to do with the main features of the slot as we will explore in the sections below. When it comes to the standard symbols, I am pleased to say that we do not have the playing card symbols on the reels. Instead we have the bar, a cocktail, a key and a Playboy bow tie as the four lower value symbols on the reels. These offer wins ranging from 0.25x your bet up to 3.25x your bet across a single pay line.

The other three symbols are the Playboy Bunny symbols and each either has a single, double or treble seven overlaid across them. There are two ways you can win with these symbols, you can combine any of the three symbols across a pay line to land a lower value win, or you can land just one type of the three different symbols on a pay line to land a better value win.

These higher value wins start at 1x your bet and increase up to 37.5x your bet for five of the treble seven Playboy Bunny symbols across the reels.

Wild features

The Wild symbol is the Casino Chips and this can appear anywhere on the five reels in the game. Not only does the symbol replace standard symbols to help create wins in the base game, but it also can be landed itself across the reels to trigger the highest value base game wins. This start at 6.25x your bet for three Wilds and goes up to the top prize of 125x your bet for five Wilds across a pay line.

Free Spins features

The key to the Free Spins feature is not the Scatter (which serves a different purpose in Playboy Fortunes as we will explore below), but the Free Spins bonus symbol. This appears on the middle three reels of the slot only and you need to land all three on the reels on a single spin to trigger the Free Spins bonus round as well as a return of 1x your bet.

When the Free Spins bonus round triggers, you get to spin the Free Spins wheel. This contains a number of Free Spins (between 10 and 30) and a multiplier (either 2x or 3x). Simply spin the wheel to reveal your total number of Free Spins and the multiplier you have in play for the round. Your Free Spins will then begin once the wheel has been spun.

The good news is that you can re-trigger the bonus during Free Spins, with the same amount of Free Spins and multiplier you earned when spinning the Free Spins Wheel.

There is one other bonus feature on the Playboy Fortunes slot and that is the Playboy Scatter symbol. This is the golden Playboy symbol and when you land three or more of these across the reels, you will win a cash prize. The number of Scatters landed increases the value of your prize ranging from 1x your bet for three Scatters, up to the game jackpot of 2,000x your bet for nine Scatters.

Best feature of the Playboy Fortunes slot

There are some very nice features on the Playboy Fortunes slot (and I'm not talking about the Bunny Girls). The Scatter bonus game is a great addition to the game and adds a real level of extra excitement to the base game and while it offers the largest potential jackpot prize, I still feel the Free Spins round is the best feature as it tends to offer more consistently better value wins of the two. Don't overlook the Wild in the base game though as this can be very important in landing some of those key base game wins to keep your bankroll ticking over nicely.

Conclusion

The fourth game in the Playboy series released by Microgaming is another worthy addition to the initial trio of slots. While not radically different in style and substance to Playboy Gold Jackpots, it has a style and some features all of its own which make it different to play. I am a little disappointed that Gameburger Studios, who often have a very quirky take on games, didn't put more of their own stamp on the slot as that would have been very interesting to see, but even so, this is a still a fun and very serviceable game to play. If you loved any of the other Playboy slots in the series, then Playboy Fortunes will tick all the right boxes.
