The Mega Moolah jackpot winner Roll of Honour

Since the Mega Moolah slot was first released there have been almost 50 winners of the huge progressive jackpot. Players from all over the world, playing in a variety of different currencies, have been fortunate enough to land one of the biggest slot jackpots available online today and each of their stories is interesting in its own way.

In this article, we are going to give you a rundown of some of the biggest, most unusual and intriguing winners ever to land the top prize on the top Microgaming progressive. We'll not only be looking at the landmark Mega Moolah wins, such as those that set new records for pay outs in the game, but also some of the more unusual wins, including details on the relatively few players that have gone public with their wins.

With the jackpot crashing through the 7.5 million mark in the last few hours, after it paid out a new World Record prize earlier in the year, it is clear that Mega Moolah mania is still very much gripping the slot players among us.

So let's learn a little more about the lucky few for whom, playing the game turned into a life-changing experience.

The first Mega Moolah jackpot winner

The very first winner occurred way back in November 2007. Back then, the game was barely known as it is now and over that time, the jackpot swelled from its initial seed amount of 1,000,000 to a total of 4,308,741. And it was at this point in November 2007, that one lucky player from South Africa landed the prize of R4.3 million.

While a prize of over 4.3 million Rand sounds like a massive prize, when converted into the base currency for Mega Moolah, this lucky player took home a prize which today would have been worth around £235,000. Which is why when the jackpot was won for the second time by Klaus E, he took home a considerably bigger jackpot.

From Finland, known as Klaus, won the first "real" mega-sized jackpot prize, when he landed a US$5.5 million win back in April 2008. This was the first landmark win that made headlines throughout the online gambling community.

The third Mega Moolah winner smashes the Mega Moolah record

After Klaus' win a total of 13 months passed before the Mega Moolah slot paid out again. Once again, it was paid out to a European-based player, but this time the jackpot was won in Euro, as the winner, Georgios, heralded from Greece.

Over the 13 months since the jackpot was last won, it had climbed to around 6.3 million and Giorgios decided to play the game with a five Euro bet to test his luck. It proved to be a shrewd move as a short time later, his €5 bet had turned into a €6,374,599 cash prize.

This victory, only the third ever for the Mega Moolah slot, would hold the record for the highest ever win on the slot for the next three and a half years, but in the meantime, there were other notable wins.

The first player to land the jackpot playing at a no download, instant play casino was the next winner two months after Giorgios win, although their prize of €1,171,776 was considerably smaller than what the Greek player had pocketed.

There was just one winner in all of 2010, when one player landed a €2.5m prize in November that year, while in 2011, there were two more smaller winners, one from South Africa and one from the Eurozone. But nobody had come close to topping Giorgios win.

In 2012, there was a notable winner, albeit for a smaller amount when one player, using US Dollars as their currency, landed a $1,070,272 prize, one of the smaller jackpot prizes won over the years. However what was notable about this win in May that year, was that it was the very first ever win by a player playing from a mobile device.

That however, would change late in 2012, when after three winners earlier on in the year, the very first player from the UK landed a massive price.

John's Orchard rains cash with massive £5.8 Million win

John Orchard's Mega Moolah jackpot win was notable for several reasons. It was the only time the jackpot was triggered playing the Dark Knight slot, which for a time was part of the Mega Moolah progressive network. He was also the very first player from the UK to land a win and in addition, his win set a new record for a progressive jackpot payout on the Mega Moolah slot.

John won £5,883,044 playing a 30p spin on the Mega Moolah slot. John, usually a bingo player, had decided to enjoy a few spins on the game as it offered a huge jackpot.

His win equated to around $9.5 million or €7.3 million at the time, which made him by far the biggest ever winner of the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot. A title that he would hold onto for several years.

Between John's win in December 2012 and October 2015, there were a number of smaller jackpot wins landed in the game, including a total of six throughout 2014. We also saw the first winner claim their prize in New Zealand Dollars in May 2013, followed by the first Australian Dollar winner in December 2013. Then in June 2014, the first winner claiming their prize in Canadian Dollars was confirmed. This was followed by three more across 2014 and into 2015, with the largest being a CA$7.5 million prize, which wasn't enough to eclipse the value of John's big win.

However, by October 2015, the jackpot had been triggered just once previously in that year and had now climbed to an incredible 13.2 million, primed ready for one lucky player to shatter the record.

Jon Heywood's massive win smashes the Mega Moolah and Guinness World Record

During 2015, from April through to October, the Mega Moolah jackpot had risen markedly. The jackpot had crashed through the 10 million barrier for the first time and due to a massive increase in popularity with players over the years, the game was seeing its jackpot rise faster and faster as more people chanced their luck playing the slot.

One player to do so in October 2015 was former soldier Jon Heywood from Crewe in the UK. Playing the slot for the minimum bet of 0.25 per spin, Mr Heywood could not believe his luck when the Jackpot Bonus Game spun around and landed in that crucial white sector, handing him a prize of over £13.2 million.

The win was so large that it was officially confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as being the largest ever online slot progressive jackpot payout in history.

Jon wasted little time in putting his fortune to good use, paying for top notch treatment for his poorly father, while treating himself to a variety of goodies.

With the popularity of the slot now soaring, 2016 saw three 10 million plus winners, although these wins were paid out in New Zealand Dollars and Canadian Dollars (twice). What had become notable now was that mobile play was now hugely popular with all but one winners from Jon's big win in October 2015 to April 2017 falling to players playing on their mobile.

Mobile World Record smashed by lucky winner in April 2017.

A new world record for a jackpot won on a mobile device was set in April 2017, when one lucky European based player landed a prize of over €8 million when playing the game from their device.

The win overtook the previous record of €7.9 million which was also landed by a Mega Moolah player back in August 2016.

By now, many more winners of the jackpot were landing their prizes using a mobile device, rather than playing via instant play or a download onto their PC and it was a trend which has continued right the way through to the present day.

However, just a month later, we would see another incredible first for the Mega Moolah slot.

22nd May 2017 - The first day the Mega Moolah jackpot was won twice!

The 22nd May 2017 will be one of the days that live long in Mega Moolah history as this was the day that saw the shortest amount of time between two triggering jackpot wins. At 13.11 in the afternoon, one lucky player landed a €3.77 million jackpot but then incredibly, just five hours and 16 minutes later, another player landed a CA$1m prize on the slot.

This gap between wins remains the shortest period ever between two consecutive Mega Moolah jackpot triggers and indeed, it is a record that will be incredibly difficult to beat.

Incredibly, a month later on June 19th, the same thing happened again with one player triggering the prize at 8.28 in the morning and then another player landed a win later on at 17.14 in the evening, proving that lightning always strikes twice!

Since then, we have continued to see a plethora of winners of the Mega Moolah jackpot from their mobile device, with just one winner via downloaded software since June 2017. Indeed 2017, proved to be something of an incredible year for Mega Moolah jackpot prizes.

2017 - The Lucky Year for 13 Jackpot Winners

Prior to 2017, the largest number of winners in a single calendar year when it came to the Mega Moolah jackpot prize was six, which had been achieved in 2014. However, 2017 would blow that year out of the water when it came to the sheer number of jackpot winners.

From January 2017 through to the end of December 2017, the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot's top prize was triggered on a total of 13 occasions. It was triggered at least once in every month of the year except February, and it was won twice in both May and June that year.

With over double the number of usual wins on the slot, people did wonder if Microgaming had somehow made winning the jackpot a little easier, but in reality, it is simply a combination of good fortune, combined with many more players playing many more spins on the game, that contributed to so many people landing a win during that year.

Indeed, from March 2017, through to the end of April 2018, the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot was triggered at least once in every month during that period (14 months in total), with that run only coming to an end in May 2018.

September 2018 - The World Record is Shattered with a breathtaking €18.9 million win

This brings us neatly up to the modern day and the last winner which came after a New Zealand Dollar player landed a NZ$8.3 million prize in June 2018. From that period on, the jackpot grew considerably over the coming months, smashing through the 10 million barrier for the first time since November 2016 and it then went on to crash through more milestones until it reached almost 19 million on the 28th September.

On that day, one lucky player using the Euro as their stake managed to spin and win an incredible prize of €18,910,668, which is now the new World Record for the highest ever pay out on an online slot game.

So far, details on the lucky winner have been kept private but the jackpot has already been building since and has now reached over 7.5 million. Who will be the next player to add their name to the growing roll of honour for the Mega Moolah slot? Will it be you?
