Three fab Microgaming slots that fly under the radar

It's the nature of the world that the more popular things tend to get more attention, for whatever reason they are popular. Manchester United, for example, get more column inches in the sports sections of newspapers than many other teams.

The same is true in the slots industry where behemoth games like the Mega Moolah slot or the Game of Thrones slot tend to be the ones that generate the most interest. However, when this happens you are at risk of missing a couple of gems that have been released but which fly a little under the radar.

You would be surprised at how often this happens and then when you play the slot back, you realise just what an enjoyable and fun slot it was to play. You can often wonder why a particular slot just doesn't seem to gain the traction that other slots do.

So in this article, we are going to take a look at three of these unsung heroes of the Microgaming slot catalogue and explain why they are such good fun to play and why it is always worth taking a look past the most popular games to see if you can unearth yourself a hidden gem to try.

Here's three from Microgaming's extensive back catalogue which if you haven't yet tried out, are well worth a closer look.

  1. Lucky Little Gods (Feb 2018)

A rather quirky slot that has a mix of themes, combining the famous style of Manga animation with Chinese legends, this is a 5-reel slot that has 243-ways to win rather than pay lines in play. The slot doesn't actually look much like a slot, set against the backdrop of a pink and purple cloudy sky, with sky-scraping Chinese temples in the background.

As the name of the slot suggests, the main characters on the reels are the eponymous Lucky Little Gods and they are the higher value symbols, the Chinese characters are the lower value symbols and spins start at just 0.30 per spin, although you can ramp up the action to 30.00 per spin if you are a player who enjoys higher betting stakes. The gentle soundtrack is a perfect accompaniment to the game.

There are some nice animations you can see when you hit a win using the higher value symbols and there are a couple of bonus features to trigger. The Golden Tree Scatter appears on the first and fifth reels and when landed can award a prize of between 1x and 15x your bet on that spin. The Treasure Pot Scatter when landed on the third reel will instantly award a cash prize of 20x to 100x the total bet for that spin.

There's also the Little Gods bonus which can trigger on base game non-winning spins and which awards you at random a prize of between 4x and 40x your total bet. There's also the Wild symbol which substitutes for all the standard symbols in the game, while the Free Spins Scatter awards 8 Free Spins for landing three to five of the symbols on a single spin and during Free Spins, every Scatter symbol you land awards an additional Free Spin. Furthermore, during the bonus game the first and fifth reels on the slot are Wild to help you land some bigger value wins.

Asian-themed slots are very popular and there are some great examples of these types of games about, but the Lucky Little Gods slot stands comparison with any of them.

  1. Electric Diva (July 2016)

It's hard to categorise what the Electric Diva slot is about, but a sexy babe destroying alien creatures using the incredible power harnessed by her guitar roughly encapsulates the general feeling of the slot. Admittedly, it doesn't sound the most convincing proposal for a fabulous slot to play, but in truth this is a highly enjoyable game with some excellent and unusual bonus features.

The basics are that Electric Diva is a 5-reel slot with 40 pay lines in play and it was developed by Mahi Gaming in conjunction with Microgaming. Spins can be played for as little as 0.40 per spin but you can ramp up the action to a maximum bet of 50.00 per spin if you prefer.

The game is set in Spark City where a rather ugly alien is attacking to try and take over the world, as they are prone to do at times. Spark City's great hope is the guitar-wielding Electric Diva who can use her instrument to shoot down the bad guys and save the city.

The main bonus to watch out for is the Electric Diva Bonus which is triggered when you land three or more Alien Bonus symbols across the reels. Land three and you get 1 free spin with a 1x multiplier, four gets you 2 free spins and a 2x multiplier while land all five to get three free spins with a 3x multiplier.

However, in the bonus game, you can shoot down aliens with the Electric Diva and as they are blasted to pieces, they will reveal additional spins, increased multipliers or cash prizes. You can land up to 40 Free Spins and an 8x multiplier in this round.

You can win up to 2,800 times your stake in this bonus round and with medium to high variance the amounts you can win do differ considerably. Add in a fabulous rock soundtrack as you play, and you'll find plenty to amuse yourself with the Electric Diva slot.

  1. Hot as Hades (July 2015)

All things devilish are afoot in this hugely underrated and beautifully realised slot from Microgaming. Hot as Hades was released back in July 2015 and when it was, I was certain it would be a sure-fire smash hit. The game was certainly popular but never quite captured the imagination of slots players as other Microgaming slots have in the past.

That's a pity because this is a game that features fabulous graphics and animations, 5 reels of action set against a hellish-backdrop, the chance to win 100,000 coins, plus two fantastic bonus features, one of which can be triggered at random at any time in your game.

Featuring cartoon-style graphics, the slot has a number of cute characters, including Cerberus, the three-headed dog, Zeus, Poseidon, Medusa and of course, Hades himself on the reels. The Scatter bonus simply offers a cash pay out of up to 5,000 coins, while five of the Hot as Hades Wilds on a pay line pays out the maximum 5,000 coins prize while any win with a Wild part of it also earns a 2x multiplier.

It's the bonus features that really are the stars in this slot with Super Mode triggering randomly on any spin. This will award you five Free Spins and on the first of those spins, you will receive three Wild symbols on the reels. These will remain in place for all five spins and if you land further Wilds on subsequent spins, they also remain in place for the duration of the bonus.

The main bonus of the slot is the Quest Bonus which is triggered when you land three or more of the Skull Scatter symbols anywhere across the reels. This is a simple game you play which tracks Hades quest to the Crystal Helm from the Underworld where he must try to reclaim the Helm from his siblings.

Each round allows you to pick from a number of options to reveal cash prizes, multipliers and similar although there are also dangers which can end the bonus. Find Cerberus and you will win all the prizes and bonuses for that round before moving on to the next phase. The further you go on the quest, the more likely you are to land a sizeable win.

Hot as Hades, for me, is one of Microgaming's most underrated and certainly one of its best ever looking slot games. It is well worth a try if you are feeling a little devilish one evening and fancy trying a game different to your usual games.

Try any of the above three slots at the casinos.
