What are the key symbols I need to know on the Mega Moolah slot?
While everybody who plays the Mega Moolah slot would love to be the next big winner of the game, the fact is that it will only a lucky few that play the game that will be fortunate enough to win the life-changing amount of money in the Mega jackpot fund.
However, that is not to say you cannot win money playing the slot as there are a number of features in the base game and the bonus games, that could see you land a sizeable prize.
Due to the fact that everyone gets a little 'progressive blind' when playing slots like Mega Moolah that have a huge top prize, it is easy to overlook how you can earn some cash in the base game and bonus features, so in this article, we are going to take you through the ways you can win some of the other prizes on offer on the original Mega Moolah game.
That includes learning about the different jackpots available for the base game and the main bonus feature, the Free Spins bonus game.
To begin with however, we are going to start off by learning a little more about the base game. This is because this is the part of the game you will definitely be playing the most and there are a number of different symbols on the reels which can offer you a wide range of wins.
Someone is going to win it - why not you?
Mega Moolah base game wins
On the reels in Mega Moolah there are ten different standard symbols. These are split into two groups. The lower value symbols are the playing card symbols and these range from the 10 through to the Ace. Each is a different colour to help with identification and each of these offers a prize in coins of the following amount. (All wins must start on the leftmost reel and the symbols must be in order on any of pay lines in play).
- 3 Symbols - 2 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 10 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 40 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 3 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 15 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 60 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 4 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 20 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 75 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 6 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 30 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 100 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 8 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 40 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 150 Coins
In addition to these symbols, there are six animal symbols on the reels, five of which are the higher value standard symbols. Two of the animal standard symbols, the elephant and the bison, offer small value wins for landing just two of these symbols on a pay line.
- 3 Symbols - 10 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 50 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 250 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 20 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 100 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 400 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 30 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 125 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 500 Coins
- 2 Symbols - 4 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 40 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 150 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 600 Coins
- 2 Symbols - 6 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 50 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 250 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 750 Coins
If you assume that the standard bet you make in Mega Moolah is 25 coins, then you can see that in order to make a profit, you need to hit a three-symbol win of the giraffe, bison or elephant symbol. All other three-symbol wins will return slightly less than your 25-coin bet, or in some cases just a fraction of the amount.
For four symbol wins, you need to land four Kings or above in order to trigger a profit on your bet, but the good news is that any five-symbol win across the reels will produce a profit and if you can hit one of the higher value animal symbols, that profit can be considerable (up to 750 coins).
Now the eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that I said there were six animal symbols on the reel, but only five were standard symbols. The sixth is the Lion symbol and this one is slightly different to the other symbols as this is the in game Wild.
The Lion Wild
The Lion Wild is the most valuable symbol in the Mega Moolah slot. Firstly, it acts as a Wild symbol when it appears on the reels (which it can in any position). This means you can substitute the Lion symbol for any other symbol on the reel to increase your chances of a win. Obviously, the more Lion symbols you land on a spin, then the better your chances of triggering either more pay lines on a spin, or more valuable pay lines.
What is a real benefit to the player however is that any win you land with standard symbols and a Lion Wild symbol will be doubled as all wins with a Lion Wild pay out 2x the standard amount.
In addition to serving as a Wild, the Lion symbol is also the highest paying symbol in the game by a considerable margin. If you are fortunate enough to land successive Lion symbols on a pay line, then you could win some sizeable cash prizes.
- 2 Symbols - 15 Coins
- 3 Symbols - 125 Coins
- 4 Symbols - 1,500 Coins
- 5 Symbols - 15,000 Coins
As you can see, landing four Lion symbols on a pay line pays out double what the highest pay out is for landing five standard symbols and if you are lucky enough to land five Lion Wilds on a pay line then that pay out is a massive 15,000 coins.
By using Lion Wilds across the reels in multiple positions, the biggest theoretical win you could land in the Mega Moolah base game is 75,000 coins, which is a sizeable jackpot for you to chase. However it is by no means the biggest prize available in the Mega Moolah game itself as that prize is accessed only when you land the Free Spins bonus and to do that, we need to learn about the only other symbol on the reel.
Mega Moolah Monkey Scatter
The Scatter symbol is the purple monkey wearing a head band and it is an important symbol in the game as it offers a chance to win some cash prizes.
With Scatter wins, rather than the prizes being coin values, they are instead stated as multiples of your total bet, so the positive of that is that if you land any Scatter win, then you are guaranteed to win at least 2x your stakes.
The cash prizes on offer for landing Scatters across the reels are:
- 2 Symbols - 2x your stake
- 3 Symbols - 3x your stake
- 4 Symbols - 20x your stake
- 5 Symbols - 100x your stake
However, if you land three, four or five symbols, you will also trigger the Mega Moolah Free Spins bonus game.
In Free Spins, you will receive 15 Free Spins on the Mega Moolah slot. The music will change to signify the start of the Free Spins bonus and regardless of how many scatters you landed to trigger the game, you only ever receive 15 Free Spins.
The bonus then plays out as the standard game does but with one key difference and that is that every win you land is automatically subjected to a 3x multiplier. That is before you apply any multiplier that comes from Lion Wild symbols, which can then further increase the value of the win.
That means that you could potentially win up to 225,000 coins if you are lucky enough to land the biggest win in the Free Spins bonus round.
One positive of Free Spins is that you can re-trigger the bonus by landing three or more Scatters during the Free Spins game. This still awards you a cash prize and any additional spins you win are added to the amount you have remaining.
This is essentially the way you can win big money on the Mega Moolah slot without needing to trigger the Jackpot Wheel, which is entirely random. It is a good idea to get a good understanding of how the game works and pays out as even if you don't trigger the Jackpot Wheel game, you could still win a fair bit playing Mega Moolah's standard and bonus features.
