What are the symbols and the ways I can win on the Mega Moolah slot?

Welcome to our series of articles about the original Mega Moolah slot and the many different aspects and features of this ground-breaking and World Record setting game.

No game in the history of online gaming has awarded more millionaire winners than Mega Moolah and with four people already landing dream amounts in 2020, plus a jackpot prize now worth more than 12.5 million, it is looking likely that soon we could be celebrating another big winner.

When first released the slot is a teenager now but its appeal remains undiminished. In this article, along with an accompanying video, we will take a look at the different features of the Mega Moolah slot in terms of the winning lines and the symbols that are used on the reels to land those wins.

In other articles we are going to look at other key aspects of the game, such as whether the slot is a higher or lower variance game, what other features of the slot you can access from the main slot game and lastly, we will of course be taking a look at the main features of the slot, including the Wild, the Free Spin round and of course, that massively important Jackpot Bonus Wheel game, which is the key to landing any of the four progressive jackpots, including the top Mega Moolah jackpot prize - the Mega jackpot.

For now though, we are going to take a look at the key ways to win on the base game of Mega Moolah. These are the wins that you will encounter most often when you play and you are far more likely to find these wins as a way to bolster your bank account while playing the game. However, they can also produce some very sizeable wins in their own right (up to 75,000 coins in the base game) so winning in this part of the game should not be discounted,

Let's start with looking at the different ways to win across the reels on Mega Moolah.

Mega Moolah - Ways you can win on every spin

Like it's newer clone, the Casino Rewards Exclusive Mega Vault Millionaire slot, the original Mega Moolah slot was designed as a 25-pay line slot. Now one of the things people do not realise about Mega Moolah is that you used to be able to play fewer than this number of lines on a spin. A while back, you used to be able to select between one and all 25 pay lines on each spin, but there are two reasons why almost everybody on the slot plays 25 lines and why this feature is now not available on the updated version of the game.

Firstly, if you study a little about slot gaming, then almost every expert on it will tell you that on any game, you should always try to play the maximum number of pay lines that you can. The reasoning for this is simple, the more lines you play, the more chances you have of winning and therefore the maximum number of lines in play, the maximum chance you have of triggering a win across those lines.

This is the case on games where you have to cover the cost of every line individually, but even more the case on slot games where you have a lot of lines, or even 243-ways to win, but play for a set fee that is smaller than covering each line individually.

While that is a good reason to play the Mega Moolah slot game with all 25 pay lines in play, there is a simpler and much more persuasive reason too and that is, to ensure that your spin qualifies for the progressive jackpot prize, you have to play the full complement of 25 lines on a spin.

That means the minimum bet to stand a chance of landing the Mega Moolah progressive prize is 0.25 per spin, the same as Mega Vault Millionaire. Other Mega Moolah games, such as Atlantean Treasures and Absolootly Mad, have different minimum bets amount that are slightly smaller than this figure (0.10 and 0.20 respectively) but not all of their spins will qualify for a chance to trigger the Jackpot Bonus game.

This is an important thing to note. With the Mega Moolah slot, you can be sure each spin could be a winner of that massive top progressive jackpot prize.

One interesting thing to note about the 25 different pay lines is that they are the exact same pay lines used in the Mega Vault Millionaire slot (which is part of the reason I called it a clone) and they are all based on easy to recognise patterns across the reels, starting with the three straight lines on the middle, top and bottom rows and then a number of variations on this across multiple lines.

These are the patterns on which your wins are calculates (apart from Scatter wins), so let's learn a little more about how valuable the wins are for each symbol on the Mega Moolah slot.

Mega Moolah Symbols and Wins

There are a total of 12 symbols on the Mega Moolah slot game, 10 of which are standard symbols and two of which are feature symbols. The feature symbols are the witchdoctor Scatter symbol and the Lion Wild symbol and we will look at these symbols separately from the rest due to the special role each has in the game.

Outlined below are the main base game symbols and how much you can win for them based on a minimum bet amount (0.25) a maximum bet amount (6.25) and what the effective multiplier for each win with each symbol is. Profitable wins, where you win back more than your original bet, are shown in bold italics.

It is important to note that these are standard wins with none of the effects of one of the other important base game symbols, the Lion Wild, implemented. Let's now take a look at how the pays on the Lion Wild and Witchdoctor Scatter symbol all.

The Lion Wild

The Lion Wild is without doubt the most important symbol in the base game. It serves two purposes. It is most commonly utilised as Wild symbol, which can substitute for any of the other symbols in the game except for the Scatter symbol. This creates more chances at more winning lines across the reels and can trigger not just higher value wins utilising more symbols, but also multiple wins across the reels using different symbols too.

However, the real benefit from landing one or more Lion Wilds in a pay line in the base game is that you also receive a 2x multiplier on any win that has a Wild as a part of it. This means that the maximum pay out in the base game for the standard symbols, if you were to land four Elephants along with a Wild symbol on a pay line would be 60x your bet.

It is also good to note that the Lion Wild can appear across all five reels and as such, it can offer cash prizes itself. These amounts are generally much higher than the standard symbol amounts as you can see from the table below.

As you can see, landing five of the Lion Wild symbols pays 20 times more than the next highest value symbol, the elephant, or 10 times more than four elephant symbols paired with a Lion Wild.

The Lion Wild is definitely the key symbol in the base game and the more of them you can land on the reels, especially in a single pay line, is often the best way to land some of the better value wins in the base game on the Mega Moolah slot.

The Witchdoctor Scatter

The Witchdoctor Scatter symbol can appear across all five reels and it too offers a range of payouts as shown in the table below. It is also the symbol that is key to unlocking the Free Spins bonus round, where you need to land three or more across the reels to trigger your 15 Free Spins (which we will discuss in more detail in a separate article).

However, the Scatter can also offer a range of wins, all of which are based on a multiplier of your total bet.

The huge benefit to Scatter wins is that they do not need to be on a particular pay line as you can land these symbols on any reel, in any position to trigger your two, three, four or five symbol wins. As such, landing two Scatters in the base game can be a quick and easy way to get back double your money on that particular bet.

As you can see, there are a lot of exciting symbols that can give you a chance at some decent base game wins in Mega Moolah without ever needing to trigger the Jackpot Bonus Wheel, or even the Free Spins bonus. So don't overlook the sizeable wins that can be landed in the Mega Moolah base game, they can be an important part of your strategy and eking out your bankroll to cover as many spins as possible on this popular progressive jackpot slot.
