Cash Splash Progressive
Did you know that the Cash Splash Progressive slot is not just one fabulous slot game, but actually two?
The first version of the game was a fantastic 3-reel version, with a single payline and a fixed bet of 3.00 per spin. It was certainly enjoyable enough with a progressive jackpot, although perhaps a little expensive for smaller stakes players to play on each spin.
Microgaming however decided to give their popular 3-reel version of the game an update a few years later and the result is the Cash Splash 5-reel progressive video slot. Available in a range of formats and even playable on a mobile device.
However, rather than shelve the older game, Microgaming are offering players access to both and the best news of all is that every spin on both the 3-reel and 5-reel versions of Cash Splash add money to the progressive jackpot pot, which means that the pot grows faster as more players can get the reels spinning more often.
For the purposes of our review we'll focus mainly on the 5-reel version of the game which offers the usual 5x3 reel layout and a total of up to 15 selectable paylines.
The number of coins you can wager on each line and the size of the coin wagered is set at one 0.20 coin per line. This means that to place a bet covering all possible paylines, the size of the bet will be 3.00, the same as the 3-reel version of the game.
This does mean that Cash Splash is likely to be a game that appeals to serious progressive jackpot hunters only who don't flinch at the prospect of spending that kind of money on every spin. If you wish to chase a progressive jackpot for a smaller amount per spin, there are other options available (such as the Fruit Fiesta progressive slot).
So now we know about how the slot is played and set up, let's learn a little more about how it looks and plays.
The first thing that is strikingly obvious about this slot is that it does have a semi-retro feel. The high symbols are traditional fruit machine symbols including the Bar symbol, lucky 7's Cherries and a bundle of cash, while the player card low symbols (from 10 through Ace) are also available on the reel.
The high symbols offer payouts of from 8 to 800 credits if you land three or more across the reels in a winning payline, the low symbols offer payouts of 2 to 200 credits for the same (although landing two jacks or tens across the first two reels on a winning payline is enough to trigger wins of three and two credits respectively).
In addition to these icons, there are two other symbols on the reels that players will be familiar with. The first of these is the in game scatter symbol.
This is easy to spot as it is simply the word Scatter in its own logo. Land three scatters across the reel in any position (they don't need to be on a single payline to trigger the win) and you will win 4x your stake. Land four scatters and this increases to 50 times your stake and lastly, land all five scatters across the reels and you'll win 250 times your stake.
The big wins in the game however are accessed by the Cash Splash symbol, which acts as the in game Wild. This Wild symbol substitutes for any other symbol, except the Scatter symbol, to trigger additional wins, however it can also trigger wins when landed with other wilds. Land five Wilds across the reel on any of the first 14 paylines for example and you'll win the base game jackpot of a fantastic 6,000 credits.
However, the big progressive jackpot can be triggered if you manage to land the five Cash Splash Wild symbols in each of the five positions across the reel of the 15th payline. This is the M-Shaped payline (bottom of first reel, top of second, bottom of third, top of fourth and bottom of the fifth and final reel) and if you are lucky enough to hit this, you will win all of the huge progressive jackpot.
You can keep close tabs on how the progressive jackpot is moving with the constantly updating running total shown at the top of the screen while you play the slot.
Cash Splash is a fun to play video slot that bridges the gap between retro slot and modern slot very nicely. Given its relatively high price to play in order to win the progressive jackpot, it is arguably more appealing to mid to higher stakes players who won't worry about spending 3.00 per spin in order to stand a chance of winning the big progressive, though those who want to play fewer lines for lower stakes can have just as much enjoyment playing.
