It is fair to say that the release of the Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah slot, tied in with the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot prize fund, was something of a surprise for many. Unlike other Microgaming releases, there was little or no fanfare for this release, which simply hit casinos in January 2020 to the delight of the slot-playing public.
As part of the series of games offering a shot at the Mega Moolah progressive jackpots, Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah offers players a new way to try and land a shot at those four progressive jackpot prizes, the Mini, Minor, Major and of course, the big money Mega jackpot prize, which is seeded at an amount of at least a million and which can grow well beyond that (for example, at the time of writing, the jackpot prize pool for the Mega jackpot is worth over 6.6 million).
As is the case with other games in the series, the default amount of money that the progressive jackpot prize is seeded in is British Pounds, but you can win the stated amount in other currencies too (such as the US Dollar, Canadian Dollar, NZ Dollar or Euro) depending on which country you are playing game from. If this occurs, then the amount you win will be converted from the British Pound balance to be handed to you, with any remaining cash left in the Jackpot pool rolling over into the next jackpot prize.
What is special about the Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah slot though is that it offers players a slightly different way to trigger that jackpot prize compared to the original game, although your chances of winning the progressive prize remains the same regardless of which Mega Moolah-powered slot you play.
In Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah, there is a small pearl Progressive Trigger Symbol which can be overlaid across any of the standard symbols on the game on the middle three reels. When you manage to land one of these symbols on the reel, you are then in with a chance of triggering a spin of the progressive jackpot bonus wheel (where you are guaranteed to win one of the four progressive jackpot prizes).
Furthermore, once you have landed one of the Progressive Trigger Symbols, the size of your bet is also linked to your chances of triggering a shot at the jackpot prize. The greater the size of your bet, the more your chances of triggering a spin of the wheel increases.
If you manage to trigger the jackpot bonus wheel game, then the process you follow is pretty much the same as you would on the original Mega Moolah slot. The bonus wheel has on it a number of sectors and these sectors are coloured in one of four colours, with each colour corresponding to one of the four progressive jackpot prizes:
- Mini is seeded at 10.00
- Minor is seeded at 100.00
- Major is seeded at 10,000 and
- Mega is seeded at 1,000,000.
There are more of the Mini and Minor sectors on the wheel, with just three Major sectors and a single Mega progressive sector. You of course then spin the wheel and whatever sector the pointer lands on, that is the prize that you win.
What is really striking with the Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah slot though is that the base game is very different to any other Mega Moolah-powered slot game you can play and it is rather more like the gamep-lay you would find on a number of other Microgaming slots, such as Aurora Wilds or Banana Odyssey.
What do we mean by that? Well in Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah, there are just 10 pay lines in play on the reels (which means a low minimum bet rate of just 0.10 per spin) but one of the most exciting things, and a first for a Mega Moolah slot, is that you can win both ways across the reels, from left to right and right to left.
There are also just seven standard symbols on the reels. Five of these are fish-related symbols and include a starfish, anemone, seahorse, a purple fish and a pink fish. The two higher valued symbols are the seven symbol and the bar symbol.
There's no Free Spins bonus in the Atlantean Treasures Mega Moolah slot, but what there is is a Respin bonus. This is triggered when you land one of the Expanding Wilds symbols (the mermaid) on any of the middle three reels on any spin.
When you do, the Wild will expand to cover the reels and any wins will be paid to you. Then the Wild will be held in place on that reel and the other reels spun again for free and you can trigger another win this way. In addition, if you land another Wild, you will earn another respin, but with both reels turned Wild for that spin. If you can add a third Wild to that you will earn a third respin and there is the chance of some very sizeable wins when this occurs.
